Peter Varney stepping down as Ebbsfleet United vice-chairman

Peter Varney is stepping down as vice-chairman of Ebbsfleet United.

Mr Varney, who will no longer sit on the Fleet's board of directors, will be replaced as vice-chairman by former player Dean Pooley.

The FA Trophy match at home to Warrington on Saturday, January 13 will be Mr Varney's last in the role he's held since the club was taken over by KEH Sports in 2013.

Ebbsfleet owner Dr Abdulla Al-Humaidi said: "I would like to thank Peter for his management of the club over the past five years during which period much has been achieved.

"I am delighted that Dean has accepted our invitation to join the EUFC board. He has played a key role in the development of our new main stand and has increasingly played an important role in other key aspects of our business and it is important for us to have succession policies in all areas of our business going forward."

Pooley said: "I never imagined when I retired from playing that two years later I would find myself in the boardroom of a football club that I have such a passion for.

"I can’t wait to get started in my new role and I would like to think I can bring a fresh pair of eyes to the way we operate across all areas of the club and I have so many ideas I want to put into practice to move this club forward.

"I played with (manager) Daryl McMahon and we have always had a close working relationship and that will also help me enormously in my new role."
