Ebbsfleet moved up to sixth in the Skrill South on Saturday thanks to a narrow win over struggling Gosport.

Stacy Long gave the Fleet a third-minute lead. Ben May had a shot saved and the ball fell to Long, who volleyed home his first league goal since rejoining the club in the summer.

But the visitors were level just after the half-hour when Sam Pearce's hopeful effort deflected off Paul Lorraine and looped over Preston Edwards.

Ebbsfleet were back in front eight minutes after the break, May scrambling home his fifth goal in as many games after Boro keeper Gareth Barfoot had flapped at Chris Sessegnon's low cross.

Steve Brown's side had a golden opportunity to double their advantage when Anthony Cook was brought down by Sammy Igoe in the Gosport box.

Up stepped Billy Bricknell but his penalty was saved by Barfoot.

Ebbsfleet, who have now won their last six games in all competitions, travel to Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday before turning their attentions torwards Saturday's FA Cup fourth qualifying round clash with local rivals Dartford at Stonebridge Road.
