Pony was stabbed to death - RSPCA

Aftermath of attack on pony

Picture released by the RSPCA

This was the sickening aftermath of an attack where a pony was repeatedly stabbed and had its ear cut off.

The RSPCA are investigating after they were called to fields off Valley Drive, Gravesend yesterday.

Inspectors immediately called a vet to put the young Shetland pony to sleep because of the severity of the injuries.

Photos taken at the scene by the charity show the animal lying in a pool of blood.

@Kent_Online OMG!!!!! Really upsetting and so shocking.less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

RSCPA Inspector Alana Chapman said: "We would like to know exactly what happened to this poor pony and who is responsible.

"We are sure that someone will have some information which can help us to bring a prosecution against whoever did this and so we would like to hear from anyone with information, in strict confidence."

I have just been on the telephone to the RSPCA about a poor dog shut in an upstairs flat for 11 hours every day. He howls all the time which as an animal lover with 2 dogs of my own I find really upsetting. The RSPCA said: "We can't come out to evry dog making a noise and if he's not left for 24 hours or longer we will not do anything about it. If the noise is bothering you, report it to your local council". The RSPCA are a complete Waste Of Space!

This is a horrendous thing to a poor defenseless animal and someone somewhere knows who done it, and I truly hope they get caught and punished by whatever means.....

it probably happens more than we know but just don't get to hear about every incident so it is shocking when we see things like this in a newspaper. I hope km keep us updated and when they do catch someone name and shame them!

There are ponies in fields or tethered all over Gravesend, but when something goes wrong no one excepts ownership unless that particular animal is valuable to them.. Apart from the possibility of yobs or a sadist, its also possible this was a vendetta or grudge attack.
Kings Farm Estate & Dickens have a very bad name, but there are some very nice people... lets hope one of them talks, they can do so anonymously through Crime Stoppers if they fear reprisals. R.I.P. beautiful pony. :(

@Batman "killing a person is worse than a pony." Well, as an Athiest myself, I don't actually agree with that statement, because I hold myself to be no more or less important here, as a human being, than any of my fellow animals.
So I don't actually consider cruelty to a person to be any better or worse, than cruelty to an animal.
Let's face it, when it comes right down to it, the only thing that will possibly deter the sort of people who carried out this act, from doing exactly the same thing to a child, is the fact that if they were caught, the punishment would be much more severe.

@Batman "killing a person is worse than a pony."
We're not talking about killing here, because remember, animals are killed (humanely) in their thousands every day here, for our food. This is about the utter horror decent folk feel, when they read of such cruelty.
For most of us, it beggars belief that people could actually be so barbaricly cruel to a timid & totally defenseless young creature as this.
Oh & I wouldn't hold my breath, if you are waiting for their parents to turn them in. The sort of parents who bring up kids to behave like this, won't have a clue where there kids are most of the time, that's if they even remember exactly how many kids they even have.
Remember too that in England, there is still a huge lobby for bringing back Fox Hunting, which is clearly no less barbaric than this act. Unnecessary & pointless cruelty is still cruelty, whether it's carried out by brainless, no hope yobs on a council estate, or by posh folk in fancy red jackets on horseback.
You can't have it both ways.

This is quite close to the kings farm estate as well... So this Horse could have wandered out of a garden from up there and been in the wrong place, wrong time... I remember seeing a Cat with it's Eyes ripped out and half burnt to death up there before... Most frightening part of Kent by far!
