Six fields for permanent protection
Six playing fields in Greenhithe and Swanscombe have been
nominated for FIT status - Fields in Trust - set up by the former
National Playing Fields Association.
The town council of Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council has
successfully applied for the recreational areas within the
Town to be designated QEII Fields in Trust.
They believe it is the most fields to be nominated anywhere in
Britain.
The Queen Elizabeth II challenge was to secure and protect 2012
outdoor sports and recreational facilities for local
communities.
It will safeguard them from future development.
Town Mayor, Cllr Vic Openshaw said: "Along with the installation
of commemorative benches in both Swanscombe and Greenhithe the Town
Council felt that working with the Fields In Trust Scheme was an
excellent way to not only celebrate the Queens Jubilee but also to
secure these areas for the enjoyment and pleasure of future
generations."
