Gas problems continue

Queen Street, Gravesend

Emergency road works are still being carried out in Gravesend town centre - and they could be there a while.

Workmen from Southern Gas Networks dug up part of Queen Street at the junction with King Street and Parrock Street yesterday (Thursday) after a gas leak was reported Wednesday night.

It had been hoped the leak would be fixed by the end of the day but a second gas leak was discovered this morning.

One of the workmen said: “We think there may be a mains gas pipe down there which we didn’t know about before, so we're just waiting on plans for the area to come through before we can do much more.

“We don’t know how long it will take to fix.”

Diversions are still in place around the one way system, causing delays at peak times. Buses and deliveries trying to get into the heart of town are still being affected.
