Macclesfield Town 1 Ebbsfleet United 2
Nathan Elder
struck a dramatic winner for Ebbsfleet as they came from behind to
record a 2-1 win at Macclesfield on Saturday and climb out of the
Blue Square Bet Premier drop-zone.
The SIlkmen went ahead at the Moss Rose Ground
when Chris Holroyd head a cross from Charlie Henry past Preston
Edwards on the stroke of half-time.
However Fleet battled back after the interval
and Phil Walsh – in for the suspended Patrick Ada - managed to
volley an Ashley Carew corner past former fleet keeper Lance Cronin
from close range to level the scores shortly before the hour
mark.
Elder (pictured) completed the comeback
four minutes from time when he picked himself up after being
brought down in the box by Carl Martin to fire the subsequent
spot-kick past Cronin, sending the keeper the wrong way, for his
10th league goal of the campaign.
The move had begun with Edwards superbly
denying Amari Morgan-Smith’s volley at the other end before his
quick distribution set-up the break which saw Elder played
through.
Fleet managed to hold on through six nervy
minutes of injury time, with Edwards claiming a couple of crosses
to help ensure United made it back-to-back wins and moved out of
the bottom four after their fifth straight game without defeat.
Liam Daish’s side now sit one point and two
places ahead of Braintree, who occupy the final place in the
relegation zone.
