Crash in Wye Green, Herne Bay

A man has been arrested after a pensioner was seriously hurt in a crash, which left a car engulfed in flames.

Three fire engines, police and ambulance crews were called to the smash on the Old Thanet Way near Wye Green in Herne Bay at around 10.30pm yesterday.

A 70-year-old woman was cut free from her silver Mercedes C180 and taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.

The 23-year-old driver of a black Ford Focus ST - which burst into flames after the impact - was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and bailed until January 13.

He had been travelling from Chestfield towards Herne Bay when the crash happened. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police now want to hear from witnesses, especially anyone who may have recorded dashcam footage in the area at the time.
