Woman rushed to hospital after crashing into a lamppost off the Old Thanet Way near Greenhill

A woman has been taken to hospital after her car collided with a lamppost and then spun into a nearby hedge on the Old Thanet Way between Whitstable and Herne Bay.

Police and ambulance crews were called at 12.30pm after the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was reported to have suffered potential head injuries.

It is thought she may have passed out at the wheel before careering off the road.

Eyewitnesses Emma Appleby said it looked like a “nasty” accident, and added that she saw ambulances and police cars at the scene in Greenhill.

She said: “A silver car was crushed into the bushes. I couldn't work out how it got into that position.”

Kent ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said: “We were called to the London bound carriageway of the Old Thanet Way to reports that a car had left the road.

“The woman was dazed and had suffered potential head injuries, so she was taken at the QEQM hospital in Margate as a precaution.”

Police spokesman Carly Wymar added that KCC Highways attended to assess damage to the lamp post, but traffic didn’t need to be blocked.
