Herne Bay are desperate to put things right at Walton Casuals following two heavy home defeats

Goalkeeper Jack Delo and his Herne Bay team-mates are desperate to put things right after two home Ryman League, Division 1 South defeats in four days.

Tuesday’s 3-1 reverse against Whyteleafe followed the shock 6-0 hammering against Three Bridges at the weekend – their heaviest home league defeat for years.

Delo said of last Saturday's game: “It was the worst team performance I have ever been involved with since I have been at the club.

“I am now the oldest player in the side, we have got a good bunch of guys in the dressing room and have to learn from it and come back stronger.

“We had been on such a good little run. It was a reality check and a wake-up call for everybody.”

He added: “It was one of those games when nothing went right for us from one to 11 but I can’t put my finger on why."

Coaches Neil Brown and Ben Smith were in charge against Whyteleafe, with boss Sam Denly and Gavin Theze both unavailable.

Delo said: “There was a reaction after Saturday and we played better but their keeper (Sheikh Ceesay) did well. Defensive errors led to their first two goals and I should have done better for the first.”

Bay travel to strugglers Walton Casuals on Saturday (3pm).
