Herne Bay sign two players to help with fixture backlog

Herne Bay have signed two players to help cope with their backlog of fixtures for the rest of the Bostik South season.

Bay still have 12 games to play before the season finishes at the end of April meaning they face at least two matches a week.

They have signed centre-back Corey Wright and winger John Ufuah to help with the games left.

Joint-boss Embery said: “We have signed a couple of players and also have a couple of seven dayers for other players to help with the fixtures and so we are prepared for the run in.

“It’s also for next season so we can get things sorted early.

“It will be a mad rush to get the fixtures in. It has been cancellation after cancellation.

“It doesn’t help when you are trying to build up momentum and rhythm.

“We have to get on with it though that’s how it is for a lot of teams.”

Herne Bay have not played a match since Saturday, March 10, and hope their next games will be unaffected by the weather.

On Thursday, they host Whyteleafe, then on Saturday they travel to Walton Casuals and on Tuesday they play South Park at home.

Embery said: “Normally we train on a Thursday so it means we can’t work on things ahead of the game.

“It means we can’t train for a couple of weeks because of the rearranged games.

“We hope we can rotate the squad enough. We are going to get a goalkeeper in for Thursday as our regular goalkeeper has work commitments.”

Bay are 13th in the Bostik South with at least three games in hand over sides above them and will be hoping to finish as high as possible.

Embery is especially looking forward to the Walton Casuals game.

He added: “We have beaten them twice already this season. They are another footballing side and we tend to do well against them.

“They have a 3G pitch and we enjoy playing on them so it should be a good game.”
