Bromley move will be good for Dan Johnson admits Herne Bay boss Sam Denly

Sam Denly is facing up to losing Dan Johnson.

The Herne Bay defender, named players’ player and supporters’ player-of-the-year last season, looks set to join Bromley.

He has been training with the Vanarama National League club, played in a friendly against Charlton and Denly expects him to sign.

He said: “Steve Lovell has gone there as assistant manager and watched a few of our games last season as his son Mark plays for us. Dan was excellent for us, it will be a great move for him.”

Bexley-based Johnson was signed on a season-long loan from Maidstone last summer.
Meanwhile, Denly says he is not dwelling on the 7-1 pre-season thrashing against Margate at Hartsdown Park on Tuesday night.

Bay were missing goalkeeper Jack Delo with a foot injury, as well as the likes of Liam Quinn and Johnson, while new signing Stuart Zanone was also unavailable. Sam Hasler scored their consolation.

He said: “I am taking the result with a pinch of salt. I was impressed with Margate and they taught our lads a bit of a footballing lesson.”

Meanwhile, the club say they are disappointed the Football Association have rejected their bid to field a reserve team in the Southern Counties East League next season.

Denly was still hoping to fix-up a friendly this weekend, with Bay set to visit Ryman League, Premier Divsion Leatherhead on Tuesday.
