Sam Denly has put versatile Liam Quinn on his list of targets as Herne Bay’s pre-season begins to take shape.

The Winch’s Field boss is holding a players’ meeting tonight (Thursday) when he expects almost all last season’s squad to commit to the club. Dean Grant is the only exception, the forward having joined Ryman League Division 1 South rivals Faversham Town.

Denly said: "It’s been all about making lots of phone calls but Quinny is the sort of experienced player I would like at the club. He was skipper at Dover, Whitstable and Ramsgate, he was a leader wherever he's been, and he could be a potential new captain.

"I am disappointed Dean has left but there has been a lot of interest in our first team and under-18 players and if we only lose one player, we would have done well.

"It was always going to be a three or four-year plan when I came to the club and I want to keep the squad together."
