The police are hunting a man who "hit a shop window repeatedly with a hammer" in an attempted burglary.
Officers were called to A Simmonds jewellery shop in Hythe High Street following the incident at about 10.20am on Monday.
The man was unable to smash the glass and ran down the alleyway onto Dental Street.
Investigating officer Det Cons Stuart Dodd said: "This incident happened when there would have been a lot of people around, and I am hopeful someone may have seen something that would help me with my enquiries or who may even know who was responsible.
"I would urge anyone with information to call the appeal line on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/10066/17.
"Alternatively call Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
