Kent Police release CCTV images following a bank robbery at Natwest branch in Hythe High Street

A bank robber is being searched for following a daylight raid at a bank in Hythe yesterday.

The robber targeted the branch in broad daylight on Wednesday morning which has been described as a "frightening incident".

Police were called at just after 10am to reports of a break-in at the NatWest branch in the High Street and today released images of a man they want to question.

Witnesses reported seeing police on the scene trying to get into the building.

But today detectives released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to following enquiries made at the bank yesterday.

The suspect fled the scene after threatening a member of staff demanding to be handed over money.

Police said he left with "a quantity of cash" but did not reveal exactly how much.

He is described as white and 5ft 10ins tall with a stocky building and aged between 45 and 55-years-old.

He is clean shaven and wore dark glasses, black cap and dark hooded jumper and dark trousers.

Det Insp Andy Bidmead said: "This robbery was a frightening incident for bank staff but it took place in broad daylight in a busy high street and we are sure people would have seen something.

"I ask anybody who recognises this man or who has any information in relation to this incident, to contact me on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/32394/14."

The branch was closed temporarily while the investigations were carried out. A sign on the door informed customers of the closure to apologise.

A spokesman for Natwest said they could not comment on the incident due to it being a criminal investigation.
