Police dog tracks down drink drive suspect

A suspected drink driver has been charged after he was found in the bushes of a motorway roundabout by a police sniffer dog.

Eli and his handler PC Ed Goldswain were called to junction 11 of the M20 near Hythe after a crash at 6.50pm on Sunday.

A driver had allegedly left the scene, and despite a search of the area, police officers had not been able to find him.

But Eli found a hidden track through the rough terrain, where a man was found among bushes in the motorway roundabout.

Police say 54-year-old Daniel Routhorn, of St Michael’s Road in Basingstoke, was charged with possessing class B drugs, driving without a licence or insurance, and drink driving.

He will appear before Folkestone magistrates on Wednesday, September 6.
