Crews put a cordon in place as a precaution but said there was no significant risk to the public.

A man, believed to be in his early twenties, was given oxygen therapy and checked over by paramedics.

Firefighters left the scene at 12.40pm.

Shepway District Council, which runs the pool, say it will now remain closed for the weekend.

It was due to close Monday anyway, while damage to its roof, caused by Storm Katie, was repaired.

The authority says it will advise on Monday afternoon whether it will re-open on Tuesday.
