Power cut in Hythe

By Victoria Chessum

A total of 121 homes and businesses in a town are to be without power for much of today.

Residents reported that some shops and homes in Hythe had no electricity this morning and reported it to the UK Power Networks team at about 11.45am.

The power cut has been logged and engineers are said to be "working hard to fix it as quickly as possible."

It is thought the bang was caused by something hitting an overhead cable.

UK Power Networks said it was caused by a piece of electrical equipment that controls power to homes and businesses.

It is not yet known how many premises are affected.

A statement from UK Power Networks said: "There is currently a power cut in this area.

"Our engineers are working hard to fix it as quickly as possible.

"We are sorry for any trouble this may have caused."

The estimated time for the issue to be fixed is 7.30pm.
