Dani Glover, of Albert Road, Hythe, appeals for information about missing blue MG Midget which was stolen from a locked garage

A woman says she feels ‘bereaved’ following the theft of a car which has been in her family for four decades.

Dani Glover’s teal blue MG Midget was stolen from a garage near her home in Albert Road, Hythe, sometime between Saturday, July 19 and Saturday (August 2) morning.

Miss Glover, 53, says the car was locked securely in a garage in Albert Lane, just around the corner from her house, when thieves broke in, damaging the door and took it in what she believes was a targeted theft.

She said: “She is not a valuable car but priceless to me and my family.

“I just think if you’re going to go through the hassle of stealing a car you might as well nick something worth a lot of money.

“You don’t see a lot of Midgets about and it is very recognisable so I’m trying to spread the word so that it will find its way back to me.

“Whoever stole the car did so without the keys - there is only one set and I have them - so they will need to get a new set of keys, presumably new ignition, door locks, and petrol cap.”

The car, which has brown leather seats, round rear wheel arches, chrome bumpers and a 1250cc engine, has been in the Glover family for 42 years after it was bought new by Miss Glover’s mother, Margaret, in 1972.

It was then handed over to Miss Glover, who works as a financial advisor in London, when she was 20-years-old.

She added: “I have loved and cherished the car since I was 10-years-old.

“I have, at times in my youth, struggled to maintain her but she was thoroughly restored in 2001 and is in excellent condition. I learned to drive in her and I know the car so well.

“I’ve driven all over Europe in that car and parked her everywhere, and simply cannot believe she was stolen from a garage in Hythe.

“I feel bereaved as I can’t really remember a time without her. I have no other car and her value to me is irreplaceable.”

Miss Glover reported the theft to police on Saturday morning.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 reporting crime reference ZY/025499/14.
