The wind reached the under-section of the roof at Seabrook Road, Hythe, and peeled a section of it away.

Firefighters had to cut a 10ft by 12ft section away to make the site safe.

Folkestone Fire Station crew manager James Kirk said: “The section of steel sheeting had been ripped away by the wind and it came loose.”

An amber weather warning has been put out today for the coast and Highways England warned those using high-sided lorries, motorcycles and cars with caravans to take extra care and keep checking weather conditions.

Road users are being advised to follow messages on the overhead signs and listen to radio updates. Further information can be found by visiting Highways England or calling its Information Line on 0300 123 5000.
