Hythe Town manager Tim Dixon admits his side's Ryman League Division 1 South campaign is fizzling out

Hythe Town have gone five games without a win and manager Tim Dixon has admitted the season is sliding away from them.

Not since they beat Corinthian Casuals 6-1 on March 10 have the Cannons tasted victory – and they’ve lost four times since then.

Given how well they played after Christmas to pull clear of relegation trouble, it’s been a flat end to the campaign for Hythe.

Dixon said: "I said a few games ago that I didn’t want the season to fizzle out but that’s exactly how it’s gone.

"It’s totally against what I wanted because I wanted to be competing. We’ve taken one point out of 15 and that’s not good enough.

"Ten more points and we’d be right up there fighting for seventh or eighth but now we’re just above the relegation places.

"It’s told me a lot about the players and which ones are willing to dig in and give a bit. A couple of them just look like they’re seeing the season out.

"We need to identify that. We’ve told the players they’re playing for their places next year."

Hythe are away to Guernsey on Saturday, knowing a win in the Channel Islands will make them mathematically safe from relegation.

Dixon’s squad will meet at a hotel on Friday night, catch a flight early on Saturday and then run out for a 1pm kick-off at Footes Lane. They return on the same day, landing back on the mainland around 6.30pm.
