Hythe Town start pre-season this week with manager Tim Dixon still looking to add experience to his squad at both ends of the pitch.

Dixon wants a striker to fill the void left by Craig Thompson and Luke Harvey, while a central defender is also on his summer shopping list.

Cannons players report back for their first training session tomorrow (Thursday) with the new Ryman League season now just over five weeks away.

Dixon said: "I’m excited about the start now. I’m still looking for two or three players – ideally a centre-half and a striker – with a bit of experience in those positions.

"We’re taking a couple of young lads on trial but there’s nothing guaranteed there.

"I could do with another centre-half because Joe Kennett’s gone to Whitstable although we know James Morrish can play there."

Dixon knows the centre-forward he ends up signing may be a player already with another club who becomes available closer to the season.

"It’s not ideal to be leaving things this late," he admitted. "Pre-season’s about to start so I’ll give it a couple of weeks.

"We’ve still got Jordan Wells and Sam Conlon who know where the back of the net is so we do have a few options."
