Hythe Town boss Clive Cook says people shouldn't panic about their form

Manager Clive Cook has called for calm as Hythe search for consistency in their Bostik South promotion push.

It’s now just one win in six for the Cannons, who lost 4-1 at Cray on Saturday, although they’re only one place and two points outside the play-offs.

Cook, whose side host struggling Molesey on Saturday, admitted: “We’re inconsistent. Whichever Hythe turns up, that’s what you get and we’ve got to sort that out.

“But there’s 46 games in this league and you’re not going to win them all. There are going to be times when you don’t play very well. I wouldn’t say we’re playing terribly, we’re just not clinical enough in front of goal.

“We’re still in a good position, in the pack. It’s not drastic, we’re not near the bottom. One or two wins puts you in there.

“We’ve got six winnable games coming up and if we get something from them, we’re right in it. People read a result and go “oh, wow” but when you turn round and say “it wasn’t 4-1” they tend not to believe you.

“People panic, they look at it and say “Hythe have blown up” but it’s nothing like that.”

Hythe picked up 37 points in the first half of the season, more than twice as many as Molesey, who arrive at Reachfields fourth-bottom.

But Cook said: “It’s a tough game. They took points off Carshalton – who would have thought that?

“I wouldn’t say there’s any easy games in this league because everyone wants to do something. They don’t want to go down and we want to go up, so every game’s a battle. We’ve got to go into the trenches now and win ugly.

“Everyone’s got to calm down because this happens in football. Folkestone lost 3-1 at home on Saturday at home and no-one’s barking. I know it’s not in my league but calm down, they’re doing very well.

“They’re still in the pack and this is what I’m saying. People say “one win in six, blimey” but it’s not like that.

“We drew with Greenwich and they’re a really good side. We gave up some points at Hastings. You’ve got to analyse the whole kaboodle.

“Sometimes people say “they’re done” but we’re not miles away. We are in the pack still and everyone will go through a bad patch. I don’t even think this is a bad patch. Six losses out of six is a bad patch.”
