Another season's best for hurdler Jack Green in Geneva but disappointment for Adam Gemili in 200m while IPC European medal for Stephen Osborne

Jack Green’s resurgence continued apace as the Hythe hurdler registered his third Rio Olympic qualifying time in eight days.

The 24-year-old produced his third fastest run ever and quickest since before the London 2012 Olympics, in which he crashed out in the semi-finals, with a storming run to victory in the 400mH at the AtletiCAGeneve meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, on Saturday afternoon.

A year to the week after failing to finish at the event in his final appearance of the season Green stormed down the final straight to win in 49.05secs, just ahead of Brazil’s Marcio Teles with France’s Mamadou Kasse Hann in third with 49.15.

The former Brockhill School and Saltwood Primary pupil won at the the Josef Odlozil Memorial meeting in Prague on Monday evening in 49.18 - the fastest time by a UK athlete this year prior to Saturday - two days after registering victory in Bratislava in 49.39.

Green’s personal best of 48.60secs came in the weeks leading up to London 2012 at Crystal Palace.

Green is preparing for the British Championships and Rio Olympic trials at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on June 25 and 26 but will run for GB in a 4x400m in Lucerne, back in Switzerland, at 8.27pm on Tuesday.

There was however disappointment for Dartford’s Adam Gemili in the 200m.

In his first competitive run over the distance since winning at the European Championships in August 2014 in Zurich, the 22-year-old could only clock 20.91secs in Geneva, 0.52secs behind winner, fellow Brit Danny Talbot, and slower than two other compatriots.

Gemili’s Blackheath & Bromley AC teammate Dina Asher-Smith did help the GB & NI 4x100m relay team to victory in Geneva in 42.99, pushing France into second, alongside Asha Philip, Bianca WIlliams and Daryll Neita.

At the IPC European Championships in Grosseto, Italy, on Sunday afternoon, Longfield wheelchair sprinter Stephen Osborne claimed bronze in the men’s 100m T51 in a time of 22.05secs.

The Dartford Harriers AC veteran, 53, was fourth at last year’s IPC World Championships in Doha.
