Dartford's Adam Gemili - who booked his place at the Rio Olympics on Sunday by winning the 200m title at the British Championships - will not defend the 200m title he won at Zurich in 2014, instead contesting the 100m and 4x100m relay.

The 22-year-old's fellow Blackheath & Bromley AC sprint sensation Dina Asher-Smith, 20, from Orpington, is also in the team and will contest the 200m in which she also claimed gold in Birmingham on Sunday and will represent TeamGB in Brazil in August.

The reigning European Junior Champion reached the final of the 200m in Switzerland but pulled up with a hamstring injury on the bend.

She has also been named in the squad for the 4x100m relay, along with her training partner Shannon Hylton who was fifth in the 200m final at Birmingham.

Also on the plane to the Netherlands is Hythe hurdler Jack Green, 24, who booked his spot in Rio by finishing second in the 400mH at British Championships.

It will be Green's first European Championships - though he was European under-23 champion in 2011 and made the semi-finals at the London 2012 Olympic games.

As in London, he is also part of the squad for the 4x400m relay in Amsterdam.

Performance Director for British Athletics, Neil Black said: “We have picked our biggest team ever for the European Championships. We expect every athlete to make their individual final, with many challenging for places on the podium.

"With the European Championships and Olympic Games scheduled so close together you have to take a sensible approach to selection and look at what is best for each athlete as an individual.

"With a firm focus towards Rio, we have liaised with athletes selected for the Olympics, and their coaches, before making a decision on selection.

"We believe for some athletes, such as Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Gemili, competing in Amsterdam will benefit their performance in Rio, whilst for others, this competition was never part of the season plan.”
