After flying under the radar during an incredible winning run, coach Mark Lane says Hythe need to make the most of home advantage to continue their quest for promotion.

Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Chipstead was an eighth straight in the league and took the Cannons within two points of new Ryman League Division 1 South leaders Greenwich Borough, who have played two games more.

Town start a run of seven out of eight games at home with the visit of Molesey to Reachfields on Saturday (3pm) with South Park to follow on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Lane – who joined assistant manager Will Graham in the dugout at Chipstead and in Saturday’s 4-1 win at Three Bridges with Clive Cook away – admitted: “We’ve seemed to be on the road a lot, barring the Kent Senior Cup game against Gillingham, and it does take its toll, everyone has work and the travelling mounts up. It makes the fact we’ve been on such a good run even better.”

He added: “We have closed the gap in the past couple of weekends but we are very happy with where we are. We’re only 12 games into a 46-game season. We have been flying under the radar a bit and been on a good run.

“Hopefully with so many games to come at home we can carry on the good run and take as close to maximum points as we can.

“We know we have got some big games coming up in November, the likes of Greenwich, (second-placed) Dorking and Hastings are all good sides. But we have seen that any team can beat any other in this division on their day.

“Obviously we’d love to be going into those games on the back of 10 straight wins but we can’t afford to look too far forward. It’s a cliche but we do have to take it a game at a time.

“Molesey on Saturday are going to be a difficult side and won’t have anything to lose. That’s all we’re thinking about.”
