Trophy test for Hythe

Paul Fisk takes his depleted squad to Kent League leaders Holmesdale on Saturday, in the first round of the Kent Senior Trophy.

Despite the trophy being not the most sought after silverware of the season, Fisk admits the game is important for his team after their loss to Egham in the FA Vase last Saturday.

“After losing on Saturday every competition is important to us,” Fisk explained. “With Holmesdale being top of the league we want to go there and win the game. We haven’t been playing well recently but we are still undefeated in the league and we want to bounce back from the disappointment of losing to Egham.

“We started well against them, and it looked like it was only a matter of time before we would score. Unfortunately it didn’t happen, they scored two goals and we suddenly disappeared.”

A full squad is expected to travel to Holmesdale’s Bromley base, or as Paul Fisk put it, “as full-a-squad as we can muster.”

Jason Brazier (ankle), Tom Adlington (work), Craig Southen (shin), Gary Mickelborough (hamstring) and Buster Smissen (knee) are all likely to miss Saturday’s tie, and potentially the trip to Herne Bay in the league on Wednesday.

Skipper Gavin Ransley could make his long-awaited return however, and Mark Bond is also expected to feature after he returned from injury for a 30-minute cameo in the vase defeat.
