Plans for decking of Bradbourne car park in Sevenoaks submitted

An application for a new decked car park close to Sevenoaks station has submitted by the council.

Members of the public are being asked to comment on the proposal to deck the existing 216 space Bradbourne car park, allowing it to cater for 430 vehicles.

The structure is intended to take vehicles from the nearby Sennocke Car Park, which is earmarked for a hotel, and to accommodate 70 commuters who currently park on residential roads near the rail station.

A small number of parking spaces would be made available for hotel guests.

Plans state there would be 10 disabled parking spaces and two electric charging bays.

The planning application will take around 10 weeks to be decided and residents have until Wednesday, April 20 to comment on the proposals.

“Should our plans be given the green light, we can take the strain off some residential roads where many commuters currently park" - Cllr Peter Fleming

The plans can also be viewed at Sevenoaks District Council’s offices.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Peter Fleming, said: “Should our plans be given the green light, we can take the strain off some residential roads where many commuters currently park.

"It’s also another step towards providing a much needed hotel in Sevenoaks. We’re keen to hear everyone’s view so I would encourage residents to comment before the 20 April deadline.”

The council said proposals are being put into place to support the local economy, in particular the tourism sector, while easing pressure on residential roads where commuters park.

A spokesman said at the same time the car park and hotel will bring in new income, helping with the council’s drive to become financially self-sufficient.

If the decked car park is granted planning permission, existing season ticket holders would be offered temporary alternative parking near the station while building works take place.
