Starbucks eyes Sheppey's Neats Court retail park

Is coffee giant Starbucks coming to Sheppey?

Plans submitted to Swale council name the multinational as a possible tenant at the Neats Court retail park in Queenborough.

The move comes after developer LXB Retail Properties changed its mind about building a two-storey, 7,500 sq ft office block.

This was set to be between Morrisons and The Five Bridges pub, parallel to the A249.

Instead, it wants to construct on the same site a 4,123 sq ft parade for three food retailers.

A Starbucks with drive-thru is mentioned as occupying the largest of these units.

LXB says there had been “little market appetite” for office space. However, “considerable interest” has been shown for the new plans.

Spokesman Giles Haywood was unavailable to speak about this, while Starbucks didn’t respond to requests for comment.

However, Island coffee fans will be spoilt for choice if the proposals does go ahead.

An existing planned terrace of units adjacent to the latest scheme will feature a 1,200 sq ft Costa.

And last month, we revealed how a franchise of Burger King had exchanged contracts.

Squeezed between these will be two 1,000 sq ft units.

Work on the two terraces would likely begin at the same time.

It is believed Burger King might employ between 20 and 30 people.
