Maidstone's River Island store will close this weekend in preparation for the opening of a new, bigger shop.

The old shop in Week Street will shut on Saturday and a new one will open a week later.

The popular chain will open its new store in nearby Fremlin Walk shopping centre on Saturday, April 30.

The company will move into the former Next store, which is 13,000 sq ft, and has signed a 10-year lease with shopping centre owners M&G Real Estate.

Scott Linard, director of asset management at M&G Real Estate said: "River Island joins Fremlin Walk at a time of continued retailer interest in the shopping centre."

The centre announced earlier in the year that River Island was moving and predicted the new store would be open by the end of April.
