Tunbridge Wells: BHS and Miss Selfridge in Royal Victoria Place Shopping Centre to close doors on Saturday

Two high street chains will close their doors for the last time this Saturday.

The Tunbridge Wells branch of BHS will be the last in Kent to cease trading.

This is following the closures of the Maidstone, Gillingham, Gravesend and Ashford branches over the last few weeks.

The former high street giant is set to close all stores nationwide after it went into administration earlier this year.

BHS currently occupies a unit opening into the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre.

Another unit in the complex is occupied by Miss Selfridge, an Arcadia Group store, which is also closing down on Saturday.

Miss Selfridge stores have been closing up and down the country over the last year, following a decline in profits for the group.

Signs were put up in the Tunbridge Wells branch to say it was closing just a few days before the final trading day was announced.

The store will close at 6pm on Saturday.

The Arcadia Group also includes stores Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, and Burton Menswear.

BHS was also previously part of the group, before being sold by Sir Philip Green in 2015 for just £1.

Sir Philip, the chairman of the Arcadia Group, has come under huge criticism over recent months following the demise of the chain.

It is not yet known which stores will fill the empty units, but there are rumours that Primark will take over the BHS store.

The Arcadia Group and Royal Victoria Place have been approached for comment.
