Tory MP Charlie Elphicke promises 'five star care' in new recovery centre

Plans for 60 care and recovery suites at a health centre in Dover are being promised by MP Charlie Elphicke.

The MP said it is “time to plan the next steps” as the new Dover hospital is set to open in March in Coombe Valley Road.

Mr Elphicke has added that it is a “key pledge” for the forthcoming election campaign.

The MP and the leader of the district council, Cllr Paul Watkins, aim for the centre to be built beside the new hospital.

It would see “five star care” and recovery bed suites instead of the open hospital wards.

Mr Elphicke said: “No-one believed we would build the new Dover hospital, yet now it rises in Coombe Valley Road.

“The new hospital will provide a one stop shop outpatient service, diagnostics, revamped minor injuries and minor operations, too.

“Our plan for five-star local healthcare is the next stage to see our community have a fairer share of healthcare – a plan for at least 60 care and recovery suites in a health and care centre at Dover.

“Where better to get well than in our local communities?

“That’s why our plan for five-star healthcare will put Dover at the forefront of healthcare developments.

“The future for our local hospitals is to get the very best care to aid recovery close to our homes and loved ones.”

Cllr Watkins added:“This plan will transform Dover into the next phase of first class rehabilitation care.”

Kent County Council welcomed the proposals, with leader Cllr Paul Carter saying: “There is a need for additional short stay recovery, observation and recuperative beds (recovery bed suites) for Dover town and we will be announcing design options shortly.”
