Heritage Quarter appeal verdict still not announced by Urban Gravesham despite deadline passing

Civic society Urban Gravesham has still not announced whether it will appeal a high court case against the Heritage Quarter development.

Campaigners had until Monday, March 30 to lodge an appeal – which would further delay the construction of shops, restaurants and flats in the heart of Gravesend town centre.

The group was given an extra seven days before they were obliged to reveal the decision. However, nothing has been announced despite numerous attempts by the Messenger to contact Urban Gravesham.

It is expected the group will reveal a decision this week.

Last month, members lost their high court battle against Gravesham council after Mr Justice Ouseley ruled that planning permission for the £120 million scheme had been handled correctly.

Work is due to start on the development in early 2016 if no appeal is made. However, it could be delayed by months if one goes ahead.

Gravesham council declined to comment.
