Faversham Perry Court farm development is resubmitted

A huge development, with more than 300 houses, a care home and a large hotel, is being proposed again for a slice of land in the heart of the Faversham countryside.

Developers have resubmitted their plans for Perry Court farm, after they were turned down in 2014 and even refused at appeal earlier this year.

But this second attempt at developing the 30 hectares of land behind the Abbey School was "predicted" by campaigners who had opposed the plans the first time round.

After a planning inspector approved an appeal in May for 63 houses in Brogdale Road, even chairman of the planning committee Bryan Mulhern said it would "open the flood gates" to yet more housing south of the A2.

The appeal inspector had said that the borough council's emerging Local Plan is "out of date" and "very little weight".

He said: "Since the council cannot demonstrate a five-year supply of deliverable housing sites, all relevant policies and parts of relevant policies for the supply of housing have to be regarded as out of date."

Less than a month ago, Don Cockrill, of Edith Road, had said that it was "only a matter of time" before more development south of the A2 was given the green light.

He was one of many who had objected the original plans for Perry Court Farm.

The original plans had received more than 200 objections from residents with both Faversham Town Council and Swale Borough Council rejecting the application.
