Tunbridge Wells set to welcome a new Jamie Oliver restaurant

A new Jamie Oliver restaurant is set to move into Tunbridge Wells after planners gave its application the go-ahead.

Jamie's Italian Trattoria will be installed at 46-50 High Street but a definite opening date has not been confirmed.

The application has been given the green light subject to a number of planning obligations such as the correct disposal of waste, and noise management methods.

Some residents in the surrounding area are concerned about the potential disturbances the venue could cause at night, and the noise that a new ducting system plant may cause.

A neighbour to the building, Mrs Lorna Blackmore, wrote a letter of objection in response to the plans.

In it she said: "My main concern is the Plant which I understand will operate at Jamie's I am happy if this starts at 7 am but any earlier will cause myself and all the residents in Grantley Court to not get a good nights sleep.

"My understanding is that the night club is allowed to stay open till 2 am on certain nights. As you will see on those evenings this would mean that we only would get say 3 hours sleep if Jamie's was to start the plant at say 5 in the morning.

"Therefore subject to the plant starting no earlier than 7 am I would be prepared to withdraw my objection."

The plans were approved on the basis that the plant would not be used outside the operating hours of the restaurant, meaning it would not operate before 7am.

The unit is also to be housed with an acoustic enclosure in a bid to reduce noise even further and protect surrounding residential buildings.

An opening date for the restaurant is yet to be revealed.
