Metro Bank to open branch in Maidstone

Metro Bank, the challenger bank set up after the financial crisis, is to open a new branch in Kent next week, creating about 20 jobs.

The Maidstone store will be the 40th opened by the bank, which was the first new high street bank to launch in the United Kingdom in over 150 years when it launched in 2010.

It is the third branch to be launched in the county, after Tunbridge Wells, Bromley and Orpington.

The bank on Week Street will be open its doors for the first time on Friday, December 11.

It will be open seven days a week, 362 days a year, with Debbie Valk hired as store manager and Duncan Simmons as local director.

It is replacing the Burger King restaurant which moved to the old C&H Fabrics building on the corner of Union Street.

Metro Bank regional director Kevin Walker said: “We are excited to move into Maidstone and become a part of a community that we admire.

“Thousands of people have joined us for the unparalleled levels of service and convenience that we offer, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring a true banking alternative to the Maidstone community.

“We look forward to welcoming personal and business customers on our journey as we revolutionise UK banking.”
