Pep & Co due to open at Neats Court, Queenborough, later this year

A South African-owned company is the latest firm to move into the Neats Court retail park in Queenborough.

Developer LXB Retail Properties has revealed that Pep & Co will takeover the empty unit between Poundland and B&M Bargains.

The discount fashion retailer, backed by investment company Pepkor, has 50 stores around Britain, including one in Maidstone, selling homeware, shoes and clothing.

It is currently sorting out various planning issues with Swale council and is expected to open in the spring.

Giles Haywood, of LXB Retail Properties, said: "We think they are an exciting retailer and we think they will be a great addition to the park.

"The 10,000 sq ft space is the same ground floor size as Sports Direct."

Pepkor's move follows the Original Factory Shop, which opened in December, and the continuing work on the pub/restaurant next to Morrisons.

The other companies trading on the park are Iceland, Poundland and KFC.

Meanwhile, Marston's has announced that its Four Bridges pub is to be renamed the Five Bridges before it has even opened.

Area operations manager Paul Whiteman said: “After we announced the original name a resident got in touch and explained there had, in fact, been five bridges linking Sheppey with the mainland.

“The first was built in the 13th century during the time of Edward I and was called the Tremsethg. It was washed away by a freak tidal wave.”

He added: “We are happy to correct the name, as we want to be sure the pub really connects with the local community.”

The pub and restaurant will cater for up to 150 diners. It is expected to create more than 40 jobs.

Bosses have already begun looking for a deputy manager, senior team, head chef and second chef. More roles will be available later.
