Thanet District Council confirms no agreement with Euroferries Express Ltd. for ferry service at the Port of Ramsgate

Thanet council has confirmed there is no agreement for a cross-channel ferry service between Ramsgate and Boulogne.

An announcement was made by Euroferries Express Ltd, who claimed to be in contact with the council finalising necessary port approvals.

However Thanet District Council (TDC) has said that the statement is inaccurate and misleading.

Former company Euroferries Ltd. was reported to the Advertising Standards Authority in 2013 for misleading advertising.

The complaint was upheld as the company were taking bookings for a Ramsgate to Boulogne service which was not operational.

Euroferries Ltd. approached TDC in 2009 and since that time both companies have failed to substantiate that they could provide a viable cross-channel service.

A Thanet council spokesman said: “The council welcomes all credible approaches from commercial operations and is open for business with companies who could demonstrate the potential to operate a viable service from the port.”

Euroferries Express Ltd. director Adrian Gillan responded to Thanet council's comments.

He said: "It was a great disappointment for Euroferries Express that we recently found it necessary to inform TDC that because of the uncertainties with TDC response we were to transfer the port base to Boulogne.

"Consequently our outstanding request to TDC is for confirmation from Ramsgate Port of our berthing rights. This we await from TDC."
