Harrow Inn in Lidsing posts angry Facebook message after closing play area because customers vandalised it

A popular pub has posted a furious Facebook message blasting teenagers and adults for forcing it to remove its £15,000 children's play area.

The Harrow Inn in Lidsing, near Gillingham, has removed the play area, which it installed five years ago, after growing exasperated with repeated vandalism, cigarette burns on the synthetic grass - and people turning up with their own food and drink.

In a message posted on Facebook, the pub described those responsible for the closure as 't**ts'.

It responded to complaints about the closure by saying that 'if anyone should be p****d off it should be us.'

The Facebook post read: "The decision was made to take down the play area after unsupervised children and idiotic teenagers and adults abused and vandalised it.

"Now I have seen and heard some customers moan...these are the customers that we might see once or twice a year when the sun is shining and then don't see for another year! Great supporters of the one of the few independent pubs left in the area!

"We invested in that new play area five years ago at a cost of over £15,000! Every year for the past five years we have relaid ten tonnes of new play bark! Every year the play area went through repairs and rigorous health and safety checks!

"We put clear signage up that all children were to be supervised...and that the play area was for the use of under 13s. We also had signage put up saying no glasses or smoking allowed!

"NOW. ...if anyone should be p*****d off it should be us Why? Broken glass from t**t grown ups not giving a toss and allowing their children to have glass in the play area....fag burns on the synthetic grass.....parts of wood ripped off the frame.......swings broken due to adults using them.....children and adults alike throwing rubbish (including bottles and glasses) over the fences into private living areas! I can go on!

"And to really top it off, parents bringing their children here.....but bringing the kids their own drinks and food!

"But now, because the kids are bored they have been left by their parents to jump and break the benches, and pull the flower beds apart!"

Customers posting on the pub's Facebook page have backed the action.

Jackie Edwards said: "This is so sad, my children loved the play area. I'm devastated for yourselves that you have had to make the decision, but fully understand why. We will still visit, some adults and children have no respect."
