Simply Ice Cream – made near Ashford – to be stocked at Morrisons from March

A hand-made ice cream maker has signed a deal to stock its products in Morrisons.

Simply Ice Cream, which grew sales by 20% last year, will supply the supermarket from March 20.

The company, which has won 33 Great Taste Awards, makes nearly 30 flavours at its factory in Bonnington, near Ashford.

It will stock 500ml tubs of Dreamy Vanilla, Sublime Strawberry, Divine Chocolate and Heavenly Honeycomb at Morrisons, retailing at £4.99.

Managing director Sally Newall, who founded the brand in 2005, said last year the company is “looking forward to Brexit” as it anticipates a move away from imported products made more expensive by the weakened pound.

After her latest supermarket contract, she said: “There’s no doubt that buyers from the multiples are focusing on British made produce even though Article 50 is yet to be triggered.

“We’re delighted to have four lines now available in a new outlet. We’re hoping that the available lines will grow in Morrisons over the coming warmer months.”

The company prides itself on being described as “the best shop bought ice cream available” by celebrity chef James Martin on BBC1 show Saturday Kitchen.
