UK's first solar-powered mobile barrier unveiled at Construction Expo

A security gate company is launching the UK’s first solar-powered mobile barrier system at a high-profile exhibition.

Green Gate Access Systems will unveil its new product to secure building sites at the Construction Expo today.

The five-metre traffic barrier, dubbed the SOSEC, can operate up to 900 times a day, even in the British winter, and has been trialled at Leeds Castle.

It has also been used by homes developer Kier Living, which is rolling it out to 22 of its work locations.

Maidstone-based Green Gate, which marked its 10th anniversary this year, will show off the barrier at its stand at the expo, being held at Kent Event Centre in Detling.

Managing director Neil Sampson said: “The SOSEC concept meets the challenges of combining security with mobility, solar power, durability and flexibility, brought together in a single easy to deliver and operate platform.

“The product is attracting a lot of interest already and we are looking forward to demonstrating its capabilities at the Construction Expo.”

Last year more than 3,000 people attended Construction Expo, which is free to enter.
