Task group to aid Dartford high street

A crack team is to be created to help rejuvenate Dartford town centre.

At a meeting on Tuesday night, councillors were expected to agree to create a Town Centre Task Group which will work to boost the high street.

It comes in the week that Dartford’s Thursday market moved from Sainsbury’s into the town centre.

The report before councillors focuses on three main areas and will consider the value of town centre loyalty schemes; working with large retailers and seeing how they can help improve trading conditions and seeing whether cheaper rents or pop up shops could help improve occupancy.

The report to the Policy Overview Committee states: “The committee has undertaken to establish a Task Group to explore a number of initiatives being undertaken by town centres around the UK, consider whether they have contributed towards any improvements in those towns and decide whether they might improve the viability of Dartford’s town centre.”

Councillors on the team will be Matt Bryant, Matthew Davis, David Hammock, John Hayes, David Mote, Marilyn Peters and Catherine Stafford, under the chairmanship of Eddy Lampkin.
