Robin Ince to host Digibury Weekender at the Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury

TV comedian Robin Ince hosts this weekend’s Digibury conference examining the advantages – and disadvantages – of living in a digital age.

Has technology made the world a better place? Have we lost the human touch in the digital rush?

Ince, writer and co-host of BBC Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage, will lead a panel of speakers to explore the changes brought about in a world of instant communication and information exchange.

Canterbury-based digital agency Deeson sponsors the conference, which is co-sponsored by the Arts Council and promoted by KM Media Group, which includes the Kentish Gazette, KentOnline and kmfm.

Hot on the heels of last year’s hugely successful event, there will be morning and afternoon sessions in which Mr Ince will call on guest speakers to give their views before taking questions from the audience.

Speakers will cover topics including the impact of artificial intelligence on our lives; the need for businesses to develop ‘tech ethics’; how crowdfunding has changed options for artists and business; and what the future holds.

Deeson managing director Tim Deeson said: “We’re really excited to be able to co-host this event for a second year and continue to foster a strong digital community in Kent by bringing national thought leaders to Canterbury.

“It’s great to have the Arts Council supporting our community and giving us the opportunity to create a vibrant discussion.”

The Digibury Weekender conference will be held at Kent University’s Gulbenkian Theatre on Saturday October 17 between 10am and 4.30pm.
