Rockar Hyundai, Bluewater, sees 100,000th visitor after opening six months ago

The flagship store of a unique car dealership will this week celebrate its 100,000th visitor in the first six months of operation.

Rockar Hyundai, based in Bluewater, offers customers a way to research vehicles in a familiar fashion, as they would do online.

Due to the unique location in the shopping centre, Rockar can expect to see more customers on an average Saturday as generic car dealerships do in a whole year.

The world’s first digital automotive retail experience planned to adapt the traditional way of purchasing a car, allowing people to carry out many services at the touch of a button, and they signed a 10-year lease prior to opening late last year.

On a typical weekday, Rockar can expect between 400 and 500 visitors, a number which rises to between 900 and 1,100 at weekends - traditional dealerships tend to to see around 750 new car customer visits every year.

Rockar’s average customers are different from the typical Hyundai driver, as the new location expands the horizons with a new demographic being reached. Numbers released by the unique car dealership show that the average age of a Hyundai driver is 57, and the average age of a Rockar customer is 37.

They also reveal that around 54 per cent of those who visit the Bluewater store are female – Rockar’s key demographic.

The owner of the company, Simon Dixon, has been in car retail for more than 20 years. Speaking on the change of preconceptions of the brand, he said: “There is a myth in the automotive industry that to target female car buyers you need to ‘pink it and shrink it’.

"Actually, just 51 per cent of Rockar’s female buyers purchase smaller vehicles, which is exactly the same as male buyers. The ix35 four-by-four model has actually been bought by more women than men, which is a powerful example that women can be very much in control of the car buying process."

He added: “When looking at the success of Rockar so far, it is clear that challenging the historical approach to car buying is the way forward. The 21st century needs a car buying process that matches what consumers want and Rockar provides it.”

The Bluewater store is open weekdays until 9pm.
