Medway entrepreneur Wayne Pollard opens online beard oil business, Beard Juice, from home in Gillingham

The beard has gradually been returning to the faces of many men and one Medway entrepreneur wants to help the modern man keep his facial fuzz looking fresh.

Wayne Pollard, from Gillingham, has just launched Beard Juice – an online company selling organic beard oils, hand-mixed right here in Medway.

The 42-year-old said: “I’ve always had a fondness for facial hair, and in my day job as a web designer I always try to keep up with the latest trends online and Instagram is full of bearded men.

“I’ve always tried lots of beard oil products and I thought I’d try and have a crack at trying to make my own.”

He signed up to online courses and experimented with a variety of oils before coming up with the finished product. Beard Juice is created from a mix of carrier oils (almond, coconut, hemp and jojoba) and essential oils. No alcohol is used in the oils.

All the oils are organic and come from a manufacturer in England, but Mr Pollard does all the mixing himself at his home.

Mr Pollard said using beard oil is the same using hair spray or hair gel. “I’ve got a very small scruff compared to guys who are covered in it,” he said. “If you don’t carry on using it, then it’s a nightmare to handle.

“The longer your hair or beard gets, the more potentially uncontrollable it can get.”

Beard Juice gives 10% of the proceeds to The Movember Foundation all year round.
