Wallace and Gromit could appear at London Paramount entertainment resort near Swanscombe after Aardman Animations signs deal

Wallace and Gromit, the animated characters, could be coming to a new Paramount resort in Kent after a deal was signed today.

Aardman Animations, the Oscar-winning studio which created the duo, has agreed a memorandum of understanding to feature their intellectual property at the park alongside Hollywood creations.

London Resort Company Holdings, the developers behind the project earmarked for the Swanscombe Peninsula between Gravesend and Dartford, announced the deal.

It adds to agreements signed with the BBC to use the broadcaster’s intellectual property like Doctor Who, plus the original agreement with Paramount Pictures to create attractions based on more than 3,000 films including Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, Titanic and the Italian Job.

Other Aardman features which may be created at the park – which developers hope to open in Easter 2020 – include Chicken Run, Pirates Band of Misfits and the Shaun The Sheep TV series.

London Resort Company Holdings director David Testa said: “Our agreement with Aardman will bring a number of the nation’s favourite characters to the resort and introduce them to a whole new international audience.

“Our vision for the London Paramount Entertainment Resort is to create a world-class destination that combines the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture.”

Sean Clarke, head of rights and brand development at Aardman Studios, said: “Aardman is proud of its British heritage and ability to make award-winning films and TV series that entertain audiences all over the world.

“This is a great foundation on which to work with LRCH, with a view to creating a range of highly entertaining and immersive attractions with our brands at the London Paramount Entertainment resort.”

Mike Bartok, executive vice president of parks and resorts at Paramount Pictures, said: “We are delighted with the collaboration with Aardman. This demonstrates a further step in the development of an outstanding global resort harnessing the very best of creative talent from around the world.”

A planning application for the £2 billion London Paramount entertainment resort – set to create 27,000 jobs – is due to be submitted in the autumn, with construction due to start in winter 2016 if approved.
