Steel production in Kent: Ex-Sheerness Docks boss and steel manager Des Crampton explains why Liberty House is reopening mills on Sheppey

Steel operations are poised to return to the county after a surprise announcement last month.

Liberty House said they want to restart part of the steel production plant on the former Thamesteel site in Sheerness next year.

Des Crampton was engineering manager at the site and was also boss of Sheerness Docks.

He spoke about what the announcement means for the steel industry and for Sheppey.

If all goes ahead as planned, Liberty aims to re-open the rolling mill.

It will import steel to the plant and turn it into products such as rods for the building industry.
