Chapel Down hires LVMH director Mark Harvey who has worked with Louis Vuitton, Moët & Chandon and Hennessy

Chapel Down, the winemaker, has hired a director of the world’s largest luxury brand to spearhead its growth.

Mark Harvey was business development director at LVMH, the company formed from the mergers of Louis Vuitton, Moët & Chandon and Hennessy in the 1970s and 1980s.

He will join Chapel Down in September and will set about enhancing its the brand of wines made from vineyards in Tenterden, Blue Bell Hill and around west Kent.

Mr Harvey will report to chief executive Frazer Thompson and is expected to join the Board before the end of the year.

Mr Thompson said: “We are delighted to welcome Mark to the team. He joins at an exciting time.

“There are huge opportunities and challenges ahead in both English wine and beer and we need the very best talent at Chapel Down to ensure that we are able to better build our business and our brands.

“Mark brings a wealth of experience in luxury drinks development as well as the personality and intelligence to help us shape the future of the English wine industry.

“His appointment will enable us to make our wine and beer business as good as they can be.”

Mr Harvey added: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Chapel Down team at such an exciting time for the English Wine industry.

The appointment comes a day after Gusbourne Estates, the winemaker based in Romney Marsh, revealed the appointments of James Arbuthnot and Matthew Clapp as non-executive directors.

Mr Arbuthnot, 62, was previously a director of Vertic Limited, while Mr Clapp, 36, is a director of Shutdown Maintenance Services Limited and M.D.C Consulting Limited.
