It would be hard to beat the views from this on-going development project – a Grade II listed Martello Tower in Folkestone.
Martello Tower No.1 stands high and proud on the east cliff of Folkestone adjoining The Warren just off Wear Bay Road.
It has uninterrupted 360 degree views across the English Channel to France and the White Cliffs of Dover, with Folkestone and Dungeness power station in the distance.
Originally there were 103 towers built between 1804 and 1812 during the Napoleonic Wars as part of the coastal defences for the UK against threat of foreign invasion. Today approximately only 45 of the towers remain, many are in ruins and a small number have been converted, with only nine remaining in their original condition.
Greg Wood, area sales manager for Your Move, said: “Martello Tower No.1 was built in 1804 and the present owner purchased the property in 1981 where it has since been a labour of love to convert the property into a habitable home.
“With the majority of renovation work complete new buyers would be able to finish the internal renovation to their own style and specification.”
The property itself is arranged over four floors. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall, three bedrooms – the master has an en suite shower room – and a large family bathroom with sauna.
Following up the wooden staircase, the first floor area is currently used as an open plan kitchen/diner with a perfectly recessed area at the front of the building for a breakfast table that enjoys the stunning views. The second floor is reached by walking up a brick tunnelled staircase and opens out into one large open room that has benched seating around the entire perimeter of the room.
With restricted head room, this floor would lend itself well as a snug/library, playroom or even possibly a cinema. At the top floor there is an open plan lounge area with panoramic 360 degree views.
The Tower is set in a good sized plot, which could benefit from some further landscaping and there is a large garage.
Greg added: “With such an unparallelled location and alluring potential, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase something that could become not only a perfect family home, but has the potential to be one the most remarkable homes in the UK.”
The tower is for sale by tender and closing date for offers is Saturday, June 22. For more information ring Your Move at Folkestone on 01303 850085.
