Fire crews were called to the blaze on Boxing Day
Fire crews were called to the blaze on Boxing Day

Part of the M20 was closed for nearly two hours on Saturday morning due to a lorry fire.

The TIR loaded with boxes of cargo caught alight between junctions 11 and 10 on the London-bound carriageway at 4.15am.

Firefighters from Ashford and Folkestone tackled the blaze.

Watch manager Mark Thomas, from Ashford fire station, said: “Luckily the driver had managed to separate the cab from the trailer.

“We shut the motorway while we dealt with the fire using water and compressed air foam. The load was boxes of cargo which was non-hazardous.

“The driver was OK but the lorry has had it.”
