A woman in her sixties had to be cut free from a car by firefighters after it crashed on the M2.

It happened on the coastbound carriageway - between junctions 4 and 5 (the Gillingham and Sittingbourne turn-offs) just after 12.30am on Saturday morning.

It is believed the silver Mitsubishi Colt left the motorway and hit a tree.

The woman, who is 68, was taken to hospital for precautionary checks after suffering abdominal bruising.

Two fire engines attended the incident.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the trapped woman.
